By-Laws of the National Athletic Honor Society
Article I
Purpose
The National Athletic Honor Society recognizes, supports, and rewards High School student athletes who achieve excellence in academics and athletics. Our core beliefs promote good citizenship, sportsmanship, competition, moral character, and friendship, on and off the field. With guidance, our members further develop their talents, to become well-rounded and successful individuals, while positively contributing to their respective communities.
Article II
Membership
Applicants for membership are accepted annually. We carefully select each member of the society, based upon the following criteria:
A.High School Student who has successfully completed at least two full academic years in a participating National Athletic Honor Society High School;
B.maintains a cumulative 3.75 GPA during his/her tenure in High School
C.participates in a High School athletic program for at least two full Varsity seasons in at least one High School sport (including but not limited to, Archery, Baseball, Bowling, Cheer/Spirit Squad, Cross Country/ Track & Field, Dance, Drill, Equine Sports, Fencing, Field Hockey, Football, Golf, Gymnastics, Hockey, Lacrosse, Martial Arts, Rowing/Crew, Rugby, Skiing, Soccer, Softball, Swimming/Diving, Tennis, Volleyball, Water Polo, and Wrestling).
Article III
Selection of Members
Annually, student athletes are chosen for the application by the Member representative of the potential member’s High School. The academic and athletic performance of each student athlete is carefully considered. Each applicant must exhibit our Five (5) Core Beliefs of Good Citizenship, Sportsmanship, Competition, Moral Character and Friendship:
A.An applicant must have completed at least two full academic years in High School while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.75.
B.An applicant must have participated in a High School athletic program for at least two full Varsity seasons in the same sport.
C. All active members must complete at least five (5) hours of community service per year.
D.An applicant must model Citizenship for membership in the National Athletic Honor Society, established upon, on who:
i.Is willing to help others
ii.Is reliable and accountable for his/her own actions; and
iii.Is devoted to each activity in which he/she participates in.
E.An applicant must model Sportsmanship for membership in the National Athletic Honor Society, established upon, on who:
i.Promotes fairness;
ii.Respects every player, classmate, coach, teacher and referee/umpire; and
iii.Has attributes of a successful and appreciated leader.
F.An applicant must model Competition for membership in the National Athletic Honor Society, established upon, one who:
i.Is able to overcome obstacles or difficulties;
ii.Motivates others to work hard; and
iii.Is confident and will positively influence others in the classroom and on the field
G.An applicant must model Moral Character for membership in the National Athletic Honor Society, established upon, one who:
i.Values equality;
ii.Promotes the rights and privileges for all classes of people free from discriminatory beliefs; and
iii.Exemplifies academic and athletic integrity.
H.An applicant must model Friendship for membership in the National Athletic Honor Society, established upon, one who:
i.Wants the best for each teammate and classmate;
ii.Has genuine care for the well-being of others; and
iii.Is loyal and trustworthy.
Subsequent to the application process, selected members are required to attend the induction ceremony into the National Athletic Honor Society. The induction ceremony is held once a year.
Article IV
Attendance
Each chapter in the National Athletic Honor Society will hold one meeting each marking period. Attendance at each meeting is obligatory, if one is unable to attend a meeting, an email must be sent to an advisor of Executive Board member.
Article V
Dismissal
Any member who fails to uphold the Five (5) Core Beliefs of the Society will be under consideration for dismissal.
Article VI
Officers
Each chapter of the National Athletic Honor Society will hold annual elections for the positions of President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Coordinators of Community Service. To be elected one must be a member of the National Athletic Honor Society for at least a year and win the vote by members of the society.
Article VII
Chapter By-Laws
The National Athletic Honor Society bylaws are subject to change and may be amended upon revisal, request or change in a circumstance.
Article VIII
Membership Fees
Every member and chapter of the National Athletic Honor society must adhere to school, local, and federal laws.
The annual dues are $275.00 per High School.
